Hasanat.dev

A community that turns real needs into small, useful projects built by volunteers, on shared open-source infrastructure.

Hasanat (Arabic for good deeds) is a community that turns real needs into small, useful projects built by volunteers. A project is not done when a website launches. It is done when real people use it, and it keeps serving them.

How it works

  1. Idea. Someone proposes a need they see, and the community votes on it.
  2. Specification. The monthly meeting picks the strongest ideas, and each one gets a written spec.
  3. Building. A project lead steps forward, and volunteers build it with them.
  4. Working. People use it, and the team keeps improving it.

Each stage asks for one action: propose or vote, “I’ll lead,” or “I can help.”

Shared infrastructure

Volunteer projects tend to stall on the same things: sign-in, hosting, setup, and knowing where to start. Hasanat solves these once, for every project:

  • One sign-in across all projects
  • A builder platform with guides, a starter template, and coding-agent skills (platform.hasanat.dev)
  • A subdomain for each project, with code and issues on GitHub

The community site itself is open source under the MIT license.

Projects

  • Smart Maqraa: organizes roles and turn-taking in Quran recitation circles. First version live.
  • Dayma: habit building for an intentional Muslim life (dayma.hasanat.dev).
  • Hasanat Apps: a bilingual directory of about 210 useful Muslim apps (apps.hasanat.dev).
  • Fitrah: a community library of age-appropriate, values-aligned content for children. Being rebuilt.
  • Mishkat: matches people who can offer an hour of expertise with people who need it. Team forming.

Where it stands

Hasanat launched in March 2026. By August 2026, when I presented it at the Ummah Tech gathering in Haifa, the community had proposed 52 ideas, cast 727 votes, and moved 6 projects into building. A rebuilt hasanat.dev went live in October 2026.

My role

I founded Hasanat and run it hands-on. I built the community site and the shared platform behind it: the architecture, the shared sign-in, the builder platform, the starter template, and the agent skills. I also run the monthly meeting and support project leads.
